Friday April 6 , 2007, another day of camping at the lake over Masters week, we spent the evening playing monopoly. We were sound asleep by 10:30pm all of us cuddled up in our sleeping bags inside the pop-up camper that we had rented for the week. There had been wind throughout the day but nothing to be concerned about. About 1:30 am, the most horrifying crash sound woke my husband and I up in panic. My daughter was screaming and the lights starting popping inside the camper. My husband grabbed my daughter and the dog jumped off of the bed. My husband began calling for my 12 year old son but didn’t get a response. He reached under the canvas and felt his legs and yelled “Oh my God”!. He went out the camper door and went around the side of the camper to find a large pine tree that had fallen and landed on my son. He was pinned under the tree. When the tree fell, it pulled the canvas of the camper sides tightly over his face so he could not yell for help. He had his small pocket knife within reach and he cut a small opening in the canvas to breath. Once he cut the opening he was yelling to me for help.

I opened the door of the camper and saw the power lines down around the camper and fires starting around us. The breaker box on one of the poles that had gone down was exploding and causing fire to start and the lights in the camper to still flicker and pop. I grabbed my cell phone and dialed 911. I spoke with the 911 dispatch telling them to please hurry, that my child was pinned under this tree and could not feel his legs. I feared that he was paralyzed.

The firefighters and EMS showed up within 8 minutes of my phone call. When they arrived, the instructed us to stay far away from the camper due to the power lines that were laying around the camper and over the top of my car, only feet away from where my son was laying.

The tree was very large and very heavy and could not be lifted by the 4 fire fighters that were there. Due to the power lines being down near the camper, they could not use any other type of rescue method to lift the tree. They had to cut the tree with a chainsaw in three different places in order to be able to roll the tree off of my son. Once he was freed from under the tree, they placed him on a back board and carried him to the ambulance. He was transported to the hospital 23 miles from where we camped.

After being seen at that particular hospital, we then took him to another hospital for further evaluation, in fear that he was not properly taken care of at the first hospital he was taken to. Only to find out that he in fact was unharmed! The tree had rested on his femoral artery causing the blood flow to his legs to stop, that is why he could not feel his legs while being trapped. There was no internal bleeding, no broken bones, only external bruising.

I do believe there was an angel watching over us that night. God protected my baby boy.

Tamar Geurtsen of Evans Georgia

The first picture is of the devasted camper. The second one shows how big the tree was and this is after it was cut up. The last is Taylor pinned under the tree. Isn’t God is amazing?

I hope this note finds you having a wonderful day!!! If not, I pray right now that it will get better. You know, sometimes we just have to “choose” to have a good day. I have learned that your attitude affects your altitude. In other words, the better your outlook, the higher you’re going. So now, if you’re down, take a moment to pray (it really works), and let God lift you out of that pit of despair. If you’re burdened, “cast your cares upon Him” and let Him carry your heavy load. Hey, and smile! You can always find something to smile about. For one thing, you stumbled onto this site and found me! For another, you have breath in your body and a brain (or at least a partial one) to think with, a God who cares, and a girl who is praying for you right now (me). So change your “tude” and rise to the occasion and “Have a great Day!”

God Bless You,

My husband, four children and our four dogs went for a long weekend trip to a chalet in the North Carolina mountains. On the second day there we decided to take the dogs and go for a drive and then for a hike in the mountains. We checked and double checked to make sure the chalet was locked and everyone loaded up while my husband proceeded to lock and close the door. Just as he pulled it shut he said “you have the keys, right?”. Panic washed over me. Of course I didn’t have the keys, he was the one locking up. Now here we were, all 10 of us, the kids, the dogs, my husband and myself stranded and locked out. And boy were we locked out. This place was sealed tighter that a drum! And remember, we had doubly checked to insure that every door was locked. Everyone started running around and trying to find way in. Perhaps a window or something could get us back into the house. Well, every window was not only locked securely but also had decorative bars on them. After running around thinking every mean thought that I could about how this was all my husband’s fault, and asking God how HE could have possibly allowed this to happen (He always gets the blame for our carelessness) it finally crossed my mind to pray. So I did. Halfhearted to begin with, you know the type. “Please help us Lord. We just wanted a nice peaceful day with the family and then this happened. Please help us to get back in the house.” Kind of a whiny prayer. But at least I was praying. Well, it worked, because the Lord spoke. Here is what He said, “All things are possible to those who believe.” I had just walked into an area at the back of the house that had a garage area that served as a shed. Inside the garage area was the back entrance of the house which I myself had checked to make sure it was locked. God then told me to go over to the door which everyone had already tried over and over again. He instructed me to put my hand on the door and pray Mark 11:24 which says that “whatever we ask in prayer, if we believe when we ask, we will receive it.”So, I put my hand on the door knob, took a deep breath, asked God to help my unbelief, and prayed Mark 11:24. As soon as the words came from my lips, the doorknob I was holding turned and the door opened without me making any effort of my own. All I had done was pray and the door opened on its own. Needless to say I began screaming hysterically out of sheer awe of what had just transpired. The kids thought I had seen a snake and there’s no telling what my husband thought. But once everyone got to me I shared with them what had happened and how God had shown me that if we only trust Him that He will take care of our every need. They were all excited, except for my little doubting thomas hubby. He was very glad we had access to the house and loved the “spiritual moment” but just had to “check out that doorknob”. So he decided to test it. By this time the outside garage door had been pulled down. My husband opened the back door and stepped down into the garage. He locked he door behind him and then proceeded to try to maneuver the locked door to open to no avail. I had to UNLOCK the door for him to come back in. I can tell you it was mighty tempting to leave him out there, but since God had forgiven my doubting, I figured I could forgive his as well.
